I am delighted to have one of my etchings in this amazing retrospective exhibition celebrating 60 years of Graphic Studio Dublin, the print studio where I work as a member and also as Master Printer and Programmes Coordinator. The exhibition runs from September 9th until October 23rd 2022 at the RHA Gallery Dublin and includes some fantastic works from the archive as well as some of my fellow studio members. Check it out if you are in Dublin, or online if you can.

I am working away here towards a solo exhibition of my work which will be held at SO Fine Art Gallery, Dublin in October 2022. The body of work will combine etching, monoprint and collage-etchings. This will be the first solo presentation of my work in many years, Programme Coordinating at Graphic Studio Dublin and family life have taken a front seat these past few years, so I am very excited to be working once more on a large body of my own work. The home studio is full of collage material, and looks like this a lot of the time right now! Stay tuned for updates as I progress!

I was delighted to finish up the year taking part in Draiocht Gallery’s Light Up Project. I created an etching to be projected on the outside walls of the gallery in Blanchardstown Dublin. An image of the etching was scanned in and we made a Vector Image of it. Glass plates were made over in Italy which were used to project the image onto the two walls beside the gallery. The Light Up project was realised in response to the pandemic, when galleries were closed, and sought to keep people connected and engaged with art, while we couldn’t be inside the space of the gallery. Many thanks to Emer, Dylan and all the team at Draoicht for inviting me to be part of this lovely project. The four-plate colour etching depicts a tiny group of houses, nestled on a precipice at the foot of a mountain, enjoying the warmth and glow of some Christmas Lights.

I was honoured to receive the Graham Wilkinson/Graphic Studio Dublin Printmaking Award at the RHA Annual Exhibition. My piece: we leave tonight - the beach huts’ conspiracy is a multi-plate colour etching, and was made once the studio re-opened after a four month closure during the pandemic last year.

The print explores the search for something unattainable, with a group of unsteady beach huts, contemplating escape, a dark skyline in the background, their stilted legs ready to move. The houses and dwellings in my work are often anthropomorphic, and I love the absurdity of these structures deciding to take off, while being rooted firmly to the ground. Our rootedness can often be a state of mind.
